Soccer Goal Anchor Types
Soccer Goal Anchor, Semi-permanent anchors, Buried Tube Anchor, Peg or stake style anchor, J-Hook Anchor, Sandbags anchor, Counterweights anchor
The different types of soccer goal anchoring systems are auger style, Semi-permanent anchors, Buried Tube Anchor, Peg or stake style anchor, J-Hook Anchor, and Sandbags or Counterweights.
The different types of soccer goal anchoring systems are:
- Auger style anchor – this is a corkscrew shaped anchor that is screwed into the ground. A flange is positioned over the goal shoe. At least two auger anchors, with at least one on each side of the goal, are recommended. More auger type anchors might be required depending on the manufacturer’s specifications, the weight of the goal and the soil.

- Semi-permanent anchors – this type of anchor is made up of two or more functional components. The main support is secured to the base and buried underground.
- Tethered Underground Anchor –this type of semi-permanent anchor system, the anchor connects the underground base to the soccer goal by means of two tethers.

- Buried Tube Anchor –this type of semi-permanent anchor is made up of buried anchor tubes with a opening at ground level. The goal is positioned over the buried tube and is bolted in at ground level.

- Peg or stake style anchor – this anchor system consists of four pegs or stakes that are approximately 10 inches long. These stakes can easily be driven into the ground with a sledge-hammer at an angle and as far as possible. The pegs should be flush to the ground when possible.

- J-Hook Anchor – this anchor style is used with holes are not pre-drilled in the ground shoe where pegs or stakes can be driven through the bar. The J-hook should be driven into the ground as far as possible with the curved part of the hook positioned over the shoe. Typically, two to four stakes are recommended per goal. The number of J-Hook anchors used will depend on manufacturer’s specifications, stake structure, weight of the goal and the soil conditions.

- Sandbags or Counterweight anchor – this anchor style is used on hard surfaces such as artificial turf, indoors, or surfaces where the above anchor systems cannot be used. The number of bags or weights need will depend on the size and total weight of the goal being supported.
